Description
Middlemist Red is a beautiful reproduction of an English sampler that we believe is likely mid to late 1800s.
Middlemist Red, the beautiful antique English sampler that we have reproduced for you here, found its way through history without a name or date to give us any clue as to its maker. It has such a sweet nature to it, though, that I imagine a very young, kind soul brought it to life sometime in the mid to late 1800s. The beautiful flowers, birds, and the little striped-roof house call to me of a happiness known most often by little girls at play, and fondly remembered as we grow and experience the many nuances of love and joy as adults. With that in mind, along with the strawberry border that has long symbolized romantic love, we have brought this sampler to you as a celebration of love and simple joys on this Valentine’s Day, 2019.
The name, Middlemist Red, is a nod to a very rare pinkish red camellia, known for sure to exist in only two places, a greenhouse in the UK, and a garden in New Zealand.
We recommend stitching on the beautiful new linen from Legacy Linen, Wild Honey, in 37ct. A separate product is available should you wish to purchase this fabric for this lovely sampler.
We thank Nicola Parkman of Hands Across the Sea Samplers for charting this beauty for us, and Jacqueline Morris for our beautifully stitched model.
We hope you love it, and that it brings you fond remembrances of lives loves and joys all year round.
