Jane Pattison 1806
Shakespeare’s Peddler
“I found this sampler for a song online and loved it for a number of reasons. The colors are gorgeous, even Christmassy. It may be Scottish (see the rose and thistle at the bottom?) The motifs are very prim, the border is made of pine boughs and there are motifs OUTSIDE the border! How cool is that?! It’s like she wanted to use up the remainder of her fabric on the sides, so she didn’t waste any of it.
My model is stitched using Sampler Threads Simply Wools. WAIT! It’s awesome! It’s not scratchy, and is actually very smooth to stitch with. Over-and-over, I have heard from stitchers who were reluctant to try it, but then were glad they did. The original was stitched in wools, but I have a conversion to the regular line of DMC floss and to DMC floss. Fabric is 32 count Vintage Navy Bean. Stitch count is 220 by 285.”
