Hoop There It Is

Heartstring Samplery

“Whoomp! (There It Is)” is a song by the American hip hop/pop rap duo Tag Team, which was released in 1993. Anyone who lived through the 90’s would have a hard time not being somewhat familiar with this tune. In the early days of its release, when listening to the song, I absolutely thought they were saying “Hoop! There it is!” Fast forward to today, I thought it fitting and playful to just go with my misunderstanding and chart it as a follow up to last year’s “WIP it Good”. Whether you stitch in hand or use a frame, I imagine that all of us at one point or still today, utilized an embroidery hoop to help aid our stitching. Other than scissors and needle, it is probably the tool most synonymous with needlework.

The inspiration for the overall design was drawn largely from vintage filet lace work. But instead of a typical single motif in the center, I chose a repeating pattern of cross stitch standards including flowers, berries, and leaves with some needlework themed bits worked in here and there.

I hope you enjoy stitching this design in your own colorway; black on red, royal blue on white, charcoal on grey, variegated rainbow on grinch green. Any way you choose to stitch it, please make sure to utter a few out-loud “Hoop!”s along the way.
